January 17th, 2008

Take a look at this interview of the man behind facebook. It is very fascinating. He is supposedly being sued by his class mates for taking their idea.
This problem is at one end of the spectrum, at the other end this company may soon have more value to the public then Google. Imagine that. Wow.

The premise of Web 2.0 is authenticity

April 4th, 2007

Web 2.0 is a phrase coined by O’Reilly media at one of their conferences referring to a second generation of extremely popular websites known for social networking. I see Web 2.0 as a powerful collection of extremely useful tools to help build opt-in lists, qualified interested visitors.

Well the premise of Web 2.0 is authenticity, so if you want to be a successful Web 2.0 Marketer be prepared to have solid information to give away. For instance there are so many realtors online, but who has something of value for todays market with that would actually benefit the visitor. The days of telling people what you do are over, that was for the 80s and early 90s. People are on information overload, they want information they can use. So when building your network it must be done in the presence of potential customers.

The next rule of Web 2.0 is to have a product of value, one that truly benefits them, Web 2.0 is not for spammers or anyone looking to try and sell on their first attempt. Web 2.0 is about building relationships and credibility.

The next rule is to have an opt-in list or newsletter. This will automate your follow up and build your credibility. Any marketer worth a dime has a newsletter, from pop stars to successful mom and pop.

Web 2.0 and its Seven Senses

April 3rd, 2007

Before Web 2.0 marketing online businesses were just using internet banner ads, text ads, email, newsletters as vehicles to drive the marketing message to potential clients online. As of recent in internet time web 2.0 offers new internet marketing strategies needed to continue to be successful in the virtual world of internet marketing.

Web 2.0 is not only partical means of reaching our online audience but also the new nature of the Web as we knew it. Blogs, and other web 2.0 social media tools such as wikis, podcasts, videocasting, photo sharing sites, social bookmarking are key marketing vehicle to drive internet traffic to the targeted websites.

So, as an internet marketer being successful in an era where customers are discussing your products and services, you should consider the 7 important marketing strategies below:

1. Understand social media

Social media is Web 2.0. First and foremost, you should need to understand social media by learning about it. YouTube, MySpace are great examples of web 2.0 site offering viewer interactivity and del.icio.us, Flickr, digg, Technorati are examples of new engines refered to as social bookmarking that you need to understand in order to effectively use them to reach your markets.

Social Media describes the online tools, platforms and practices that people use to share opinions, insights, experiences, and perspectives with each other. Social media can take many different forms, including text, images, audio, and video. Popular social mediums include blogs, message boards, podcasts, wikis, social bookmarks, and vlogs.

2. Marketing Plan For Web 2.0

Have visitors play a more important role in your web presents by using Web 2.0 tools. Have your website visitors create content on your site to be passed along. Allow vistors comment on your articals, post links, social bookmark

3. Personal Conversation

Social media applications are two-way streets where there are conversations between two or more parties. Have your audience opt-in to join and participate these niche conversational groups. Join as amembers to other social media groups of your niche marketing and post comments in their artical while adding links back to your site as well as adding social tools and services (such as Weblogs, wikis, tagging, video blogs, etc.) to your library Web sites. Enable comments on blogs and allow users to contribute to wikis.

4. Be Remarkable

Social media is a form of viral marketing where interesting ideas and content get passed along rapidly. Hence, in Web 2.0 world, content is king. You must have content that attracts your visitors that can use it Have your content or message passed along.

5. Have Content… Will Travel

Encourage visitors to bookmark and tag your content by a click of a button allowing users to repost booklists, book reviews, photos, podcasts, or videos on their own sites. Post your content on sites like Flickr and YouTube where it’s easy for users to find and share it. Make news feeds for new materials such as books, DVDs, talking books, and video feeds so that this material can be shared by online users and get your content spread to the FAST.

6. Be the Wave, not just part of it

Be the multimedia wave in your niche. Static pictures are no longer enough to attract internet users any more, video is the key driver now for Web 2.0. Statistics shows that more than 100 million videos being download daily. So, the effective of video marketing must not be overlooked. Ranking without links - Internet Marketing Strrategies

March 31st, 2007

We hear idealist talk about ranking without links. Evidently looks at linkage to determine what is quality and what isn’t.

It is disturbing, however, when I hear Internet marketing Strategists talking this way. Internet marketing Strategists should know better. I personally think that most Internet marketing Strategists who refuse to acknowledge the dominance of links in the algorithm are refusing to acknowledge that obvious fact because they themselves are unable to build links. I look at it as a kind of wishful thinking. They wish that links weren’t the primary factor, and believe that if they say it enough, it might just become true.

We encountered several claims of ranking without linkage. Upon investigation, they all fall into three types:

1- A single web page on a domain ranking without any external links. The conveniently overlooked factor is that the domain itself has hundreds or thousands of inbound links, and those links are the foundation of the rankings. Put the same web page on another domain without the links, and it will lose all ranking.

2- A web page ranking for a search term such as “Internet Marketing Strategies“. If there is no competition for the term and no traffic for the term, it really isn’t called ranking, is it?

3- A web page on a domain without its own links, ranking based on 301′d links. To be a dullard and state the obvious, rankings based on 301′d link are still rankings based on links.

The algorithm today is based on a kind of trust, or authority. That authority is established through inbound links, outbound linking and age. So links are just as vital today as they were 4 years ago. Perhaps more so.

About getting your niche in front of the spotlight - think outside the Blog

March 30th, 2007

Getting your niche in the spotlight, whether it be a magazine or newspaper, on the set of a TV show or actually on a celebrity, can reap huge rewards in terms of brand exposure, buzz and bucks for your bottom line. And once you get mentioned in the media, posting these clips on your testimonial page clearly helps convert browsers into buyers.

But how does a small e-tailer make it happen? There are several approaches you can take, with some requiring paying outside help, naturally, while others simply involve a bit of moxie and creativity on your part. Fortunately, the former isn’t as pricey and smarmy as you may think, and the latter doesn’t take an M.B.A. in marketing.

For instance, you may have read in our story Find Your Niche for Fun and Profits that Brooks Lambert of TheBeerbelly.com sent a pitch to the technology blog Gizmodo days after setting up his Web shop. Gizmodo played it big and it was picked up by the mainstream media, which led to millions of hits and countless repeat interviews. The lesson learned here is to go ahead and take the few minutes to send some targeted missives to the appropriate bloggers in your industry, but don’t be afraid to woo some on the fringe, too.
